DisplayPort 1.2 offers a maximum total bandwidth of 21.6 Gbps over its four lanes and a maximum total data rate of 17.28 Gbps. In comparison, DisplayPort 1.4 has the same four-lane structure but expands the maximum total bandwidth to 32.40 Gbps, and the maximum total data rate to 25.92 Gbps.
As DP 1.2 and DP 1.4 ports differ in data bandwidth, there is a difference in display resolution and refresh rate when connected to our hubs and docks. Only when the USB C port of the connected laptop supports DP 1.4 and it is connected to our hubs and docks, it can support the maximum resolution we stated.
For Windows laptops, we can identify the DP version by CPU Generation(Intel signal chip CPU does not include the AMD platform).
1. Displayport version 1.2 before including Generation 10
2. Displayport version 1.4 from Generation 11
3. Workstation with NV GPU is Displayport version 1.4
How to check CPU generation from Windows OS?
1. Find out "This Computer"
2. Right-click "This computer"
3. Click"Properties" then shows the below information
4. Highlighted number is CPU generation information
For MacBooks, we have listed some of the DP 1.2 models below. Except for these models, all the other newer models are supported with DP 1.4.
