Why does the iPhone overheat and stop charging when it is charged wirelessly?
The iPhone chooses the charging current and makes use of the charger's power when charging. After updating to iOS16, the iPhone is currently susceptible to over-temperature protection when it is charging or being used for other purposes like playing games or capturing videos.
If your device shows this alert and turns off the display: "Temperature: iPhone needs to cool down", please try the following advice:
Ensure your iPhone runs the latest iOS version.
Make sure the iPhone is not in a deep discharge state. (Deep discharge state: Leave the phone for more than 4 hours after it is turned off)
Turn off the optimized charging mode if it is on as it will charge slowly after 80% of the battery is charged. Click "Settings" - "Battery" - "Battery Health" - "Optimized battery charging" - Turn it off.
