However, the actual display output may differ depending on the specifications of the host device. The supported resolution and refresh rate are influenced by three factors:
- whether DP 1.2 or DP 1.4 is supported;
- whether 2 lanes or 4 lanes are being utilized;
- whether the laptop supports DSC.
What is DSC?
DSC stands for Display Stream Compression, which is a technology used to compress video data before it is transmitted from a source device (such as a laptop) to a display device (such as a monitor).
Many modern laptops and other devices use DSC to support high-resolution displays, such as 4K or 8K monitors. DSC allows these devices to transmit high-quality video data over a single cable, without the need for multiple cables or additional hardware.
